What started as a fundraising project eventually evolved into what Dannijo has become today. As a Vanderbilt psychology student, Danielle Snyder traveled to Kenya to create a documentary about Lwala, a village with high HIV rates and no nearby hospital. To raise funds for the community’s first health facility, Danielle and her sister Jodie designed a capsule jewelry collection inspired by the Kenyan Maasai tribe. And in 2008, Dannijo launched in partnership with Bergdorf Goodman, instantly becoming a celebrity favorite.
