When it comes to denim, there are a few styles we always find ourselves falling back on. The skinny jean has been at the front of the pack for well over a decade, while the looser-fitting boyfriend style is a close second.

These foundational pieces are beloved for a reason, but we also like to try out a new trend or two every season. From cropped, straight-leg jeans that work with almost any shoe to sophisticated winter-white pants, we’ve pulled together the fall denim trends we’re most looking forward to investing in 2019.

1. Denim Jumpsuits

Much like your favorite sundress, the denim jumpsuit is a workhorse piece that can fit a number of occasions and requires little to no effort. A loose silhouette in a faded color pairs well with sneakers and a tote for weekend errands, while a darker, more fitted style can be dressed up with heels and a necklace. This all-in-one, big-impact piece is a must for any fall wardrobe.

2. Cropped, Straight-Leg Jeans

Classic straight-leg jeans have been making a comeback for a few seasons now, but it’s the cropped version we’re most excited about. As far as fall denim trends go, this is one’s about as versatile as they come. The slightly relaxed fit is easy to pair with nearly every top (turtleneck, fitted knit, chunky sweater) and shoe style (booties, pumps, loafers).

3. White Denim

If ever there were a style tenet to be broken, it would be “no white after Labor Day.” Whoever made this silly rule clearly missed the memo on winter whites, because nothing screams sophistication like a pair of crisp white jeans with camel-colored booties and a slouchy sweater or fitted blazer. Trust. It’s the kind of outfit that will have you looking and feeling like a million bucks.

4. Button-Fly Jeans

Button-fly jeans may seem like a new fall denim trend, but they’re actually a nod to the fabric’s workwear origins before the time of zippers. The classic style has a low-fi ornamental vibe that pairs well with just about any top — but looks especially nice with the prairie blouses we’re seeing all over Instagram.

5. High-Rise Jeans

The universally flattering look is both comfortable and stylish, hugging curves without cutting off the waist and elongating legs for those of us who can use a little help in that department. The style comes in a variety of cuts — skinny, straight, wide, flared — making it easy to add this fall denim trend to your wardrobe. Pair with a bodysuit and a boxy blazer for a polished, work-friendly outfit or with a graphic tee for a more casual occasion.
