Whether draped over the back of your favorite recliner or waiting at the foot of your bed, cozy throws can add a welcoming touch to any room. Stylish enough to be a legit part of your decor but comfortable enough to snuggle up with during a binge-watching session, a throw blanket is one of our favorite home accessories. And even though they’re seasonless, throw blankets are especially great in the winter, whether you’re curling up with a hot apple cider or just want a little more hygge in your home.

What Is a Throw Blanket?

Before we get to some of our favorite throws, let’s talk about what a throw blanket actually is and how it differs from similar coverings. Whereas a blanket is designed to fit a bed, a throw blanket size is usually smaller, meant to be used by just one person or thrown (get it?) over a couch or chair. Afghans are similar — in fact, many afghans would technically be considered throw blankets. But for a blanket to be an afghan, it has to be knitted or crocheted.
